Rachel Wilson (she/her)

Rachel has been a teacher in different capacities for the last 10 years. She graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2018 where she developed her passion for community music and education. She has taught English as a Foreign Language in Hong Kong and Italy, as well as running early years and primary music classes at the Diane Mitchell Music School, Reel Kids Music Club and Glasgow Children's Music School. She has provided cover work for Big Noise in Glasgow on numerous occasions and she has run double bass sectionals, string orchestras and string sectionals throughout her time working at Glasgow City Councils Saturday Music Provision.
Rachel currently works for Glasgow City Council and East Renfrewshire Council as a Primary Music Specialist, delivering bespoke music lessons across both councils including instrumental instruction and classes in musicianship skills. Rachel is also an experienced administrator having administered the Reel Kids Music Club at Hyndland Primary school for two years and previously administered Queens Park Music Kids in its first year of running. In addition she also teaches violin, cello, double bass, voice and ukulele privately and has been invited to run various workshops for Early Years Music Scotland and Platform in both ukulele and general musicianship. She is a regular guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland giving lectures on Teaching Practice and has provided music workshops to children involved in Celtic Parks Easter and Summer camps, provided by Platform.
Rachel is passionate about inclusive music education and community. She regularly attends training sessions to improve her practice and expand her understanding of music pedagogy. She has undertaken training in Kodaly musicianship, Colourstrings Kindergarten and cello teaching, Starcatchers Creativity in Early Years Practice, several courses provided by National Youth Choirs of Scotland including their online summer courses in 2020 and 2021. She attended the Benedetti Foundation Training for Group String Teachers in 2022 and two years of training weekends provided by Early Years Music Scotland as well as several of their online classes over the last two years. She has attended several zoom sessions with Bessy Bass at Your Place and attended a conference with Dr Anita Collins on the Benefits of Music Learning in Children. At university, Rachel received high praise for her work in the community music module from both her module coordinators and the teaching staff with whom she worked, she was also the recipient of the Eugene Cruft prize for Double Bass in 2014.
When Rachel isn't working, she enjoys any craft hobby she can get her hands on, reading and spending time with her beloved partner and cat.
