Pim Rommelaere (he/him)
Assistant
Pim is a musician, music practitioner, and PhD researcher from Belgium based in Glasgow.
He graduated from the University of Sheffield with an MA Music Psychology in Education, Performance, and Wellbeing in 2024, during which he focussed on the musical vocality of transgender and non-binary singers and developed a passion for inclusive music-making. Now, he is undertaking a PhD that explores the lived experiences of transgender and non-binary singers in LGBT+ choirs. Through this project, he hopes to increase the involvement of the community in research and bring attention to their joys and challenges through music.
Pim strongly believes that music-making, in all its wonderful shapes and sizes, brings joy that should be made accessible and welcoming to everyone, no matter their age, learning style, or background. He has been volunteering as a session support (woodwind/musicianship/youth voice) at Big Noise Govanhill since 2021 and completed a traineeship with Sonic Bothy in 2024 where he further developed skills to empower young people with additional support needs in music-making sessions. Since 2014, he has also worked as a child and youth worker in Belgium with JNM (youth movement for nature and environment) and Heyo, engaging children and young people from diverse backgrounds in climate and nature, as well as arts and music activities. Additionally, Pim is dedicated to continually improving his practice and awareness, taking part in regular training on music pedagogy, cultural awareness and support work with Big Noise, Early Years Music Scotland, Music Mark, and a variety of grassroots community organisations.
Outside of education, Pim is a flautist with Flutes Unlimited and loves playing flute in folk sessions. You can also regularly find him jamming with the Marmalade Society, an experimental jam session group for transgender and non-binary people based in Glasgow.
In his downtime, Pim loves exploring mountains, admiring highland cows, climbing, and playing board games with friends.
