Andrea Preston (she/her)
Assistant
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Andrea Preston is a staple of the southside music scene and is excited to join Queen’s Park Music Kids as a classroom assistant in August! Andrea has held a lifelong passion for music, beginning tuition on clarinet at age 7, going on to take part in every school show, production and event she could in high school. She undertook a BA in Commercial Music at the University of the West of Scotland at 17 specialising in Songwriting, earning the Court Medal for her studies in 2013. She graduated with honours in 2015 and has been working in the creative industries ever since. In 2014, she wrote, recorded, and performed as the lead singer of pop-trio Fata Morgana, releasing a debut EP, and playing venues such as The Flying Duck, Stereo and Bar Bloc. She then continued as a soloist, performing original material at The Garage, The Arches and became a regular in the Glasgow Open Mic scene. By 2019, Andrea was a resident in several Glasgow bars with her eclectic cover shows, which she continues to do across Scotland.
In 2020, just before the pandemic, Andrea started writing original comedy music that aims to tackle complex social issues such as body image and mental health. She has been performing her unique brand of musical humour to cabaret and variety show audiences across the city post-Covid and hopes to bring out a debut release in this genre in 2023.
In 2021 she joined Riverside Music College staff as an Admin and Student Services Assistant and began offering contemporary singing lessons with an emphasis on Songwriting and Stagecraft as part of their Private Tuition team in January 2022. Andrea has experience with vocals, clarinet, guitar, drums, keyboard, and tuned percussion.
Through Riverside, Andrea has also trained as a fire warden and first aider.
When not performing, teaching, or answering emails, Andrea helps produce storytelling events in Glasgow and Edinburgh and is a volunteer for Music Broth- an instrument and equipment library based in Govanhill that aims to break down barriers for learning music in the community.
