Dorothee (she)

Assistant

Dorothee is a Glasgow-based musician and music educator with a rich and diverse musical background. Born and raised in Belgium, her journey began with playing the piano and singing in school choirs from a young age.

In 2018, she commenced Music Education Studies inspired by the Steiner curriculum at the Hogeschool Leiden in the Netherlands. These two years laid the foundation for her holistic approach to teaching, valuing creativity and individuality.

Dorothee recently graduated (October 2023) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Honors of the First Class in Music Education. Her teaching experiences and practice expanded, with a broader focus on inclusion and the Kodaly Methodology, as well as additional basic skills in guitar, bass, ukulele, and drums.

For the past two years, Dorothee has contributed to Glasgow’s music field by leading the community choir Govanhill Voices. She fosters a joyful community space with a focus on inclusion during the weekly rehearsals where she teaches mostly folk and traditional songs from around the world by ear.

Additionally, she works with Paragon, an inclusive arts organisation. Here, she provides mentoring sessions and co-leads group workshops with children and adults who experience barriers to the arts. She finds immense joy in creating these meaningful music opportunities.

Lastly, Dorothee takes on private piano students.

Dorothee began her journey with the Kodaly Methodology during her studies and continued independently by attending weekly courses offered by the British Kodaly Academy and participating in the Kodaly Summer School in 2022. She currently holds up to Level 8 in Kodaly Musicianship skills and strongly believes in the power of Kodaly to support musicians of any level.

Dorothee's own musical pursuits centre around small vocal ensembles, covering contemporary and folk music. Her piano repertoire leans more toward the classical realm, and she has recently discovered the joy of piano duets. She particularly enjoys improvising with other musicians.

Outside the world of music, you'll find Dorothee cycling around, cooking, visiting art exhibitions, and reading books.
